Lunarbounds
A real-money opinion trading app for cricket, news, politics, and entertainment.
I started the company after watching opinion trading take off in India. The product was a real-money opinion trading app on Android, iOS, and web. You picked a question about cricket, news, politics, or entertainment, took a yes or no position, and traded it as the price moved with what everyone else believed. When the event resolved, every position settled.
Building it
We built everything in-house and launched in under four months: the trading engine, order matching, settlement, wallets and payments, KYC, live event feeds, and the tools we used to create and resolve markets.
Trade matching was the hardest problem. A yes order can only fill against a no order, so the order book had to pair the two sides at every price level. Orders almost never matched one to one, so we split the unmatched quantity, queued it, and filled it as counter-orders came in. All of it had to stay fast during live matches, when a single moment in a game moves everyone at once.
How far it went
The app passed a million downloads and reached 300,000 monthly active users during the IPL. At peak, 20,000 people were trading at the same time.
The end
In August 2025 India passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, which banned every real-money game, skill-based or not. We shut the app down that month, along with most other real-money gaming apps in the country.
